I write because I love to chase the lightning. Stories come like bolts from the blue.
Some people are storm chasers. They own tricked out vans. They wait around for the atmospheric conditions to ripen for a tornado to form. That’s when they strike. (Watch “Twister” to see what their lives look like—harrowing, not for the faint of heart). Storm chasers leap into their vans and trucks and chase after those real tornadoes to film them, to study them, to gather data about them. They do it because they don’t feel whole if they don’t do it. And most of them hope to help humanity by learning enough about them to be able to predict when they will appear so people can evacuate to safe places sooner.
Well, stories can be like tornadoes sometimes. They can suck you up like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz and deposit you in another world--a world filled with strange new people, adventures and sometimes even dance music!
Stories are living things. They live in alternate dimensions. Usually they whisper to me when I’m not thinking about writing. I may be watching tv or washing dishes or just sitting around. And they appear in my mind/heart, usually as a simple flash. When I get that initial flash, I know that’s the story calling to me. It wants to know if I’m interested in listening to it, if I want to paint it with words. Hopefully these stories will touch the hearts of readers today and in the future. I tend to write stories meant to uplift and inspire because that’s what the stories do to me. So I’m not Stephen King. He has his own story universe that he writes about. I’m R.J. Reaver. I’m writing stories that come to me.
You guys populate my books. I’m a people watcher. And I’m usually a pretty good listener. I’m always interested in what’s going on in the world, in what captivates people, and in how they experience the world. I’m also always interested in knowing how we can all make this world a better place for everyone. There will soon be hotels in space and humans creating cities on Mars. We need to know how to get along peacefully as we step off the earth and into the solar system. I always find that the best way to get along with one another is to get to know one another. And that’s what I take into my writing.
Working on getting a blog set-up. Will probably be writing about the latest UFO news.
I'm on Facebook. The link is on the home page.
